The short version: this website and the SecuraCV software are provided free and open-source, "as is," while under active development. Use them, read them, build on them under the Apache-2.0 license — but don't rely on prototype software as your only safeguard, and don't use it to break the law or harm others. Buying hardware is covered separately by the Terms of Sale.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website at securacv.com and the SecuraCV open-source software (together, the "Service"), operated and published by Errer Labs ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
SecuraCV is a privacy-first, open-source video project: firmware, tools, 3D-printable enclosures, and documentation for building and running "Canary" camera devices. It is prototype software in active development and is not intended for production or life-safety use. Read the code before trusting any claim — that's the whole point of publishing it.
The SecuraCV source code, firmware, and hardware design files are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. Your rights to use, modify, and redistribute the software are granted by that license, and in any conflict between these Terms and the Apache-2.0 license regarding the software, the license controls. These Terms cover the website and the overall service around it.
You agree not to use the Service to:
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply where you install and operate a camera, including notice and consent requirements for recording.
Parts of the site (the Lab, emulators, builders, and viewers) run entirely in your browser. Where you can submit content — ideas, feedback, or gallery builds — you keep ownership of what you submit, but you grant us permission to display and use it to operate and improve the Service, and you confirm you have the right to share it. We may remove content that is unlawful, unsafe, or off-topic.
The Service links to and relies on third parties — for example GitHub for source and discussion, and Stripe for store payments. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We don't control third-party sites we link to.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for any particular purpose. This is prototype software; use it at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Errer Labs and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages — including loss of use, data, or profits — arising out of or related to your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damage. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we may update these Terms from time to time. Significant changes are posted on this page with a new revision date. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Errer Labs operates, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where mandatory local consumer law provides otherwise.
